Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – The Energy Unit in the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy & Utilities, and Domestic Transport is commemorating CARICOM Energy Month 2025, and the Minister of Energy, Hon. Konris Maynard, delivered his official statement on the annual observance on October 31, 2025.
In a speech which balanced collective achievements in the energy sector against the goals that the country still has in view, Minister Maynard articulated the theme’s relevance to the local context as follows:
“This year, we celebrate under the theme, Invest, Innovate, Sustain: Leading the Charge in Renewable Energy Frontiers. This message speaks to the very essence of who we are as Caribbean people. Through centuries of challenge and change, our ancestors found strength in unity and resourcefulness in adversity. That same spirit inspires us today as we chart new pathways in renewable energy.”
During his speech, Minister Maynard highlighted advancements in the energy sector, including those relative to geothermal energy in Nevis, grid scale solar photovoltaic and battery storage integration in the Basseterre Valley, and the SKN-100 initiative which aims to propel the nation toward 100% renewable energy generation.
With compelling words intended both to celebrate our achievements and motivate us to realize our energy goals, Minister Maynard ended his speech with the following call to action:
“Let us continue to invest in progress, to innovate for the common good, and to sustain the momentum that will secure prosperity for generations of Kittitians and Nevisians to come.”
